Playa Vik Jose Ignacio sits on the Mansa or calm beach in the heart of the bohemian chic village Jose Ignacio, Uruguay’s renowned beach enclave with a panoramic view of the beaches, landscape and ocean beyond. Playa Vik is located approximately twenty kilometers northeast of Punta del Este.

DESCRIPTION

Both organic and cutting-edge contemporary, Playa Vik is a celebration of its surroundings created for the design-forward international traveler. The beachfront retreat features a central “sculpture” building which is the heart of the compound boasting an unparalleled collection of international and Uruguayan art throughout. The building’s fifty-five foot inclined façade features a vast retracting wall of glass, which falls completely into the structure’s floor allowing guests to enjoy the majestic views of Jose Ignacio’s vibrant coastline. Rich ebony floors are found throughout the expansive indoor and outdoor spaces, blurring the lines between the interior and nature. The sculpture building includes expansive communal living and dining spaces, a library, three bedroom suites and an Italian designed kitchen by Strato Cucine. Playa Vik’s main house is flanked by six small houses or "casitas" that each feature three bedrooms, a living room and private gardens for most suites. These "casitas" once again blend the interior and exterior as fully retractable windows lead out to unique private gardens. A living roof of French lavender sweeps across the undulating earth roofscapes of the casita pavilion, allowing them to blend into the natural surroundings.

ENVIRONMENTAL MEASURES

The project has been designed to maximize the use of nature to heat, cool, ventilate and irrigate thereby minimizing the need for energy use. The owners are working towards energy independence at Playa Vik through the extensive use of solar, thermal and photovoltaic panels as well as collection and recycling of water. All heating is derived from radiant heat generated by the solar panels. Fireplaces will also provide additional warmth when needed. Fresh organic vegetables, eggs, meats and fish will be provided from Estancia Vik.

SERVICES & AMENITIES

Guests of Playa Vik will enjoy a cantilevered pool extending out from the property’s ebony terrace and overlooking the beach below. Twenty meters long, the Uruguayan Black Absolute Nero granite pool also features a celestial map of the southern hemisphere created by small optic light points set within the pool floor. In addition to the spectacular pool and terrace area, guests are invited to enjoy the spa and the natural wonders of Jose Ignacio’s beaches and vibrant nightlife. Guests of Playa Vik are also welcome to visit Estancia Vik, located nine kilometers away, which is easily accessible by horseback, bicycle, or motorized vehicles. Designed by Uruguayan architect Marcelo Daglio, Estancia Vik offers guests a rustic romantic art filled retreat complete with a game room, pool and spa, private polo grounds with horses, a glass-ceilinged wine cellar and a traditional Uruguayan barbeque.
